The binahong plant (Anredera scandens (L.) Moq.) is one of the plants that Empirically can provide activity as an antidiabetic. Flavonoid compounds have the same indication as glibenclamide for lowering glycemia. Saponine compounds in binahong leaves can reduce blood sugar and cholesterol levels. This study aims to determine the standard quality parameters of binahong leaf extract and the anti-diabetic efficacy of binahong leaf extract in alloxane-induced male Swiss mice. This type of research uses experimental methods with pre and post test with the controlled group design. The test animals used in this study were 25 Swiss strain male mice which were divided into 5 groups. The negative control group was only given CMC Na 0.5%, the positive control group was given glibenclamide as a comparison, the treatment group was given a binahong leaf extract at doses of 17,5 mg/KgBW, 35 mg/KgBW, and 70 mg/KgBW. The results of the phytochemical test showed that the ethanol extract of binahong leaves contained compounds belonging to the class of flavonoids, saponins, and showed differences in blood sugar levels before and after alloxan induction (sigh 0.05). The Binahong leaf extract has effected as an antidiabetic in alloxan-induced Swiss strain male mice that the three doses have antidiabetic effects and the first dose of 35 mg/KgBW of the extract provides the maximum effect of 48.1%. In conclusion, the recommended concentration to have the effect of reducing blood sugar levels is at a dose of 35 mg/KgBW.
